Q:
Traveler's Choice Rome Luggage Set, Is this made pf polycarbonate/ABS?
A:
Lightweight durable Polycarbonate ABS shell material for strength and providing maximum impact resistance. The Polycarbonate allows the shell to absorb impact by 'flexing' when under heavy stress The ABS is added to give the shell greater rigidity so that it will not permanently deform when under pressure, but instead 'pop' back to its original shape- Answered

30, 2007 Title: So far so good. Two round trips between the US and Italy per year. In the past the fabric style luggage hasn't been able to survive well apparently as a consequence of the fabric to handling factor or the amount of weight or stress placed upon the plastic and metal parts which give it shape. THIS luggage, conversely has survived quite well, no scrapes, dings, tears, breaks or misshapen parts after one such journey. It is precisely what I expected. The wheels even seem to handle the rough sidewalks of Rome to no bad effect. Definitely a good product for the money

04, 2007 Title: Nice Luggage Luggage is very good, have only had a short time so I am not sure about long term durability. Had to air them out as there was a very strong chemical smell which went away after a week or two. Just used them for a trip to Russia and held up nicely. The case quality is as good as Samsonite, I have some minor concerns about the durability of the wheels however they have handled all my travel so far with flying colors.

21, 2007 Title: What is that bizarre smell? Great sizes. Nice hard sides but still flexible enough to hold a lot of stuff. Only problem is a strange chemical smell. According to customer service, probably from the plastic - and being an obsolete chemist, it probably is a residual smell from a plasticizer. Aired the medium one out for several days and used it, anyway. Still minor odor. The small and the large bags have been aired out for a long time and still smell. Tried an odor eliminator, so we will see if we can use them on a trip this week.

10, 2007 Title: Great Luggage, But Will It Last? I recently finished a trip to Japan from the US, exclusively using this set of luggage. It was also the first time I had used the set since I purchased them. The larger two pieces were used to carry around 70lbs airline limit, while the smallest was a carry-on bag.
As a carry-on, the small one performed well. The outside wheel design was perfect at maintaining control and balance while navigating through crowded terminal gates and train stations. When getting on a plane, it's size makes it difficult to carry through the aisles, but it fits perfectly in overhead storage. A quick-get pocket would have been nice for small items, such as a passport or ticket, however it does manage carry quite a lot for such a little case.
The larger cases also did well. The 4-wheel design allows for a stable upright position, which is great when you need to wait for a bus or just waiting in line. On the flip-side, these wheels are small. When pulling these cases on 2-wheels, uneven ground or an uphill slope will scratch the bottom of the case. On the largest and heaviest case I placed a TSA-lock to seal the zipper closed, just in case. Many things can happen to luggage while traveling internationally and I wanted my stuff to be safe. Upon arrive to Tokyo the lock was gone, removed by the TSA, but the zipper stayed shut. What a relief! upon closer inspection, it seems like at 70lbs the zipper-to-case threads start to pull and weaken. While I don't know how long it will take for these zipper threads to break, at least these cases come with a 10-year warranty!
In the end, while not perfect, this set gives the best quality for the price.

24, 2007 Title: No matter how hard they throw it, it comes back good as new! I fly about 10 times a year and it seems it's an endless stream of ripped luggage. So I bought this set and it seems that even if people use it as a seat it holds up.
Love it!

18, 2007 Title: Durable Basic I have traveled with all 3 pieces now for total of 6 flights. Minimal wear evident. Light pieces, lots of space inside -Remember to fill the case when you use it empty case will dent or use smaller one. Bigger cases could have had suit/blazer insert for more functionality. Have learned to put all heavy items in the small carry-on so as to not be charged for being overweight with checked luggage. Wish I went for the flashy silver - the black is harder to spot in baggage claim.
