Sorry but there is no shoulder strap on this item. The side pockets are 13.25" deep.- Answered

21, 2007 Title: Holds alot This bag was great for our trip to Croatia. We could pack alot of things and not worry about the weight issues because it is so light. It is very durable and doesn't show and signs of wear even after 6 airlines (on one trip) Very easy to roll.

5530 Product Review Worked well for our train and air travel, fitting in narrow aisles. Rolls well and stands alone upright so long as you distribute weight towards bottom compartment.

06, 2006 Title: Great duffel at a reasonable price! This duffel is roomy, with multiple compartments for staying organized while traveling. It is sturdy and easy to wheel around -- it's particularly easy to handle given its size. The side handle makes it possible to hoist the bag into your car truck without breaking your back!

17, 2005 Title: Great bag Bought the 30" in red and the 36" in blue to haul household items from US to MX. Each holds a ton, sturdy, ez to spot in baggage claim, easy to load and the wheels work super.

5530 Product Review I have made two trips with this duffel and am very satisfied with its capacity and design. However, I can't rate it on durability yet because it has only traveled by car and has never withstood the test of air travel. My one big disappointment is that I expected grab handles on both ends to help with lifting. If it had come with a handle on the other end, I'd have given it five stars. However, that was a specific point I was looking for. As you can see, the picture doesn't help in determining whether or not this feature is present.
